Dr. G.S. “Jack” Guggino is a native of Tampa with specific roots in West Tampa and Ybor City. He was taught by the Salesian sisters at Saint Joseph’s Elementary School and by the Jesuits at Jesuit high school. He attended the University of Tampa on a music scholarship where he also majored in Biology and English. Following graduation, Dr. Guggino attended the University of Miami Medical School and completed a one year rotating internship at Tampa General Hospital. He then entered the United States Public Health Service and was stationed in Staten Island New York. During his four-year stay, he completed one year of general surgery, two years in glaucoma research and a one-year residency in ophthalmology. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the George Washington Medical Center in Washington DC. Following his residency, Dr. Guggino completed a one year fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC under the tutelage of Dr. Marshall M Parks.
