The Future In Facial Rejuvenation

Nonsurgical Opus Plasma skin resurfacing uses ablation and coagulation to revive that ‘youthful glow’

JORDAN PYSZ / iFoundMyDoctor.com Andrea got the look she wanted with help from Opus Plasma and BTL Emsculpt NEO treatments at West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine.

As their oldest son was preparing to go away to college a few years ago, Andrea Demarco and her husband grew increasingly uncomfortable with the prospect of becoming empty nesters. So, they did something to ensure their nest stayed full.

“We bought two dogs,” Andrea expounds. “One is a Siberian husky, and the other is a black German shepherd. We got the husky, whose name is Miska, when my oldest son was a senior in high school. We got the German shepherd a year later. His name is Kaiser.

“They’re like our new kids because both of the boys are away at college now, so it’s just me and my husband and the two dogs here at the house, and we love to take the dogs out for long walks and do things like that with them.”

Those walks are part of an exercise routine that Andrea and her husband follow faithfully. It includes workouts at the home gym in their garage as well as occasional visits to a nearby commercial gym.

Despite the physical activity, Andrea recently felt that she was lacking muscle tone in her abdominals and glutes. To regain the look she wanted, Andrea took advantage of a body-contouring special offered through West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine.

The practice of family medicine physician John M. Hill, MD, CPI, FAAFM, West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine specializes in preventive care, health maintenance, disease management and the treatment of a variety of sports injuries.

The practice also offers incontinence treatment with the BTL Emsella® chair, a variety of aesthetic services, including laser hair removal, facial tightening and resurfacing, and body shaping featuring BTL Emsculpt NEO®, which is the service Andrea tried.

Wait, There’s More

“The offer was to treat two body parts for the price of one using Emsculpt NEO, so I did that to try to build some muscle, and it worked great,” Andrea enthuses. “It really helped give me the strength I needed so that I wasn’t feeling so tired and weak anymore.”

An FDA-approved, nonsurgical body-contouring treatment, BTL Emsculpt NEO simultaneously tightens skin, tones muscle and naturally burns unwanted fat by increasing the metabolism.

It is ideally suited for people who have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 35, and it works by delivering rapid pulses of high-intensity electromagnetic and radiofrequency energy through a hand-held applicator that is applied to a target area on the body.

“The Emsculpt NEO treatments were really helpful; they were just what I needed,” Andrea says. “But while I was getting one of those treatments, I noticed that West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine also offers Opus Plasma® treatments. So, I asked about that.”

Opus Plasma is an advanced, nonsurgical facial tightening and resurfacing treatment that is designed to restore the natural production of elastin and collagen, which diminishes as people age and as it does becomes the primary cause of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging.

It works by treating the skin’s surface and deeper levels through radiofrequency and a microplasma technology that creates micropunctures that spark a rejuvenation.

“Some people like the injectables, toxins and fillers that kind of deaden the facial muscles, but over time, those muscles atrophy, so you eventually see more dynamic and static wrinkles,” says Jennifer Hill, RRT, the clinical aesthetic director at West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine.

“But Opus Plasma uses ablation and coagulation to force the skin to repair itself from the controlled microinjuries, and that is what leads to the increased production of collagen and elastin that restores the youthful glow people are looking for.

“This treatment does a complete retexturizing and resurfacing of the skin, so you wind up with smoother, clearer skin. I’ve even seen some lightening of darkened skin as well. But mostly, you’re going to see a smoother, retexturized, resurfaced skin.”

In addition to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, Opus Plasma can minimize acne scars, trauma scars, surgical scars, crow’s feet, lax skin, large pores, stretch marks and even skin texture. And it does so with little downtime compared to other treatments.

“That is one of the biggest advantages of Opus Plasma treatments,” Jennifer adds. “The downtime is minimal, about two or three days, compared to the 10 to 14 days that people sometimes require after receiving some other laser treatments.

“As a result, Opus Plasma is something you could do on a Friday, and your skin will look completely normal and with a better glow by Monday. And it can be used on any part of the body. It’s not a treatment that can only be done on the face and neck.

“I’ve used it on patients who have undergone plastic surgery and received breast implants who are trying to minimize the scar they have beneath their breast. There’s a lot of different areas that we can target with Opus Plasma.”

“Best by Far”

Andrea sought treatment for her face and neck and began receiving the 30-minute treatments last fall. She received one treatment a month for three months, and by the time Christmas rolled around, she had the smoother, tighter skin she desired.

“I’ve been to a lot of med spas and had treatments done, but the Opus Plasma treatments have been the best by far,” Andrea reports. “My skin looks a lot smoother now, and so I am very happy with the results.

“I think the better results are partially because Opus Plasma is superior to some of the other treatments that are out there, but it’s also because of Jennifer, who spent more time with me than anyone at any of the other med spas I visited.

“She does a fantastic job, and she’s so knowledgeable about everything that you can do to be healthier and to fight the aging process. She answers all your questions and does a great job of explaining all your options, and she’s really a great person.

“At most med spas, you consult with the doctor and then you get an aesthetician or maybe a nurse practitioner, and they’re not always the greatest people to work with. But Jennifer takes her work very seriously and is great to work with, so I absolutely recommend her.

“And I would recommend Opus Plasma and Emsculpt NEO as well. Thanks to Opus Plasma, my skin looks tremendous, and I look a lot younger. And Emsculpt NEO is great for anyone who has lost muscle and wants to look more fit.”
