Andrea Giles has a highly creative side, a natural talent that became the foundation for an enormously successful career. Currently semi-retired, Andrea has thrived as a professional interior designer for more than 40 years.
“I am not a decorator; I went to school and earned a degree in interior design,” emphasizes Andrea, 63. “Over the years, I’ve worked on both residential and commercial properties but mostly residential. That was more my interest.
“These days, I still do some residential work. And I do everything, from soup to nuts. I have my own work room and I pretty much do it all.”
An Ohio native, Andrea performed most of her design magic in her hometown of Cincinnati. In 2003, she moved to Ogunquit, Maine, and remained there until she opted to give life in the Sunshine State a try.
“We moved to Florida in 2012 and to our Vero Beach home in 2017,” Andrea reveals. “Initially, we had a condo and then decided to make the move more permanent, so we bought a house here. We’re residents of Florida but still have a small house in Maine. We go up there for maybe eight weeks in the summertime.
“We decided to move to Florida because my parents are from here and my sisters live here, so I have a history with the state. And we like the weather.”
Nice weather has its drawbacks, though, and as it has with many people, years of sun exposure left Andrea with dark spots on her skin. Andrea was especially unhappy with the sun spots on her face.
Andrea mentioned the problem to a friend, who told her about a new type of facial treatment using the aerolase® Neo, an aesthetic medical laser that effectively tightens and rejuvenates skin and reduces the appearance of acne, rosacea, sun spots, age spots and more.
The friend went on to tell Andrea that she could get aerolase Neo treatments at Regenerative Biologics Institute (RBI) in Vero Beach, which Andrea found convenient because she was already a patient of one of its physicians, Felice Haake, DO.
“I’ve been seeing Dr. Haake, an anti-aging specialist at RBI,” Andrea shares. “Dr. Haake has me on a regimen that helps me manage my weight. The regimen also includes regular facials and other treatments.
“Recently, I returned to RBI with the idea of treating my sun spots in mind. I wanted them removed from my face. I wanted them lasered off, so I spoke with Dr. Haake about the aerolase Neo laser. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing anything I shouldn’t be doing.”
Once Andrea received the go-ahead from the doctor, she met with Angela Bischoff, a clinical aesthetician at RBI. Angela performs all aesthetic procedures offered by RBI, including aerolase Neo laser treatments.
Confined Energy
Angela explains that aerolase Neo treatments are noninvasive and safe for all skin types and tones because they work by delivering high-laser energy in short pulses to the deepest layers of the skin.
“We use the Neo primarily on the face, neck and chest,” Angela discloses. “It is a specific laser that goes down to the deeper layers of the dermis, where it heats hemoglobin and water to stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a structural protein found in skin. The effect of the treatment is to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and lax skin.
“For Andrea, we performed a series of Neo treatments three to four weeks apart, and they brightened her skin tone and lifted her skin. The treatments also helped with Andrea’s pigmentation issues and sun spots. The Neo lightened up those areas considerably.”
Because the aerolase Neo targets the deeper layers of the skin and does not heat the surface of the skin, it is more comfortable than traditional laser treatments.
“The Neo treatment isn’t painful,” Andrea confirms. “I feel a little bit of warmth, like a warm wash. My skin is a little pink for a couple of hours afterward, and then the color fades. I’m able to put on makeup and go out that night.”
In addition to aerolase Neo laser treatments, RBI provides a wide range of other skin health and rejuvenation services. Offerings include corrective as well as preventive services, all of which are nonsurgical and require little or no downtime.
“We provide a range of peels,” Angela elaborates. “Our organic peels are nonchemical. We offer a mild chemical peel and also the VI Peel®, which is a medical-grade peel that sheds the skin in seven days to rejuvenate and brighten the skin and help with sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
“Other services we offer include dermaplaning, VirtueRF® microneedling, SkinPen® microneedling and Skinwave® AquaFacials. Dermaplaning is another way to exfoliate the skin and stimulate cellular turnover.”
VirtueRF microneedling stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, another important protein in skin, using radiofrequency energy. The RF energy, which goes deep in the skin, lifts the skin and helps with tone and texture.
SkinPen microneedling does not employ RF energy while microneedling, so its impact is primarily focused on the surface of the skin. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production. It improves skin texture and helps with scarring and decreasing fine lines.
These microneedling treatments can be combined with RBI’s advanced regenerative therapies such as PlateletPRO™ PRP and/or amniotic growth factors for even better results.
“We also provide custom facials, which include the Skinwave AquaFacial, which involves a chemical and manual exfoliation to brighten and clean the skin,” Angela explains. “We can customize facials for any patient concern, such as acne, anti-aging, hydration or brightening, using the various skin care products we carry.”
“My Results Are Perfect”
To date, Andrea has received three aerolase Neo treatments. She noticed a significant change in the appearance of the sun spots on her face almost immediately after the first treatment.
“My sun spots are pretty much all gone now, so Angela did a great job with the Neo laser,” Andrea raves. “She spread out the Neo treatments over a couple of weeks, and in between, I underwent SkinPen micro-needling, which I equate to aerating your yard.
“Thanks to these treatments, my skin has done an absolute about-face, so I’m very happy with the results. The only way I could be happier is if you made me 20 years old again. Other than that, my results are perfect.
“And RBI has great products to maintain your results and keep your skin moisturized. The Neo lasered off the sun spots and did a lot more. My skin is firmer and tighter. Very seldom can people guess my age. I always ask my husband how I look, and he tells me, I would never guess you to be much over 40, and I’m 63! My girlfriend also goes to RBI, and she looks marvelous, too, thanks to Angela’s great work.
“Angela is really special. She’s very knowledgeable and professional and makes me feel very relaxed. I feel the same way about the RBI staff, which is very knowledgeable about their products.
