Breakthrough in Pain Management: Ketamine Infusions at St. Pete Rejuvenate

Professional Wrestler Fidel Sierra Finds Relief from Chronic Pain and a New Lease on Life

Thanks to ketamine treatments from St. Pete Rejuvenate, Fidel has a lot more wrestling in him, with tours ahead in England, Japan and Mexico.

During a professional wrestling event billed as The Gathering IV in North Carolina this past July, Fidel Sierra, aka “The Cuban Assassin,” climbed back inside the ropes for a battle royale against 19 other ring legends. It was not Fidel’s swan song. Even at age 68 and with a body that has been broken more times that he can count, Fidel says he still has matches left in him. And that, he says, is due in large part to the treatment for back and neck pain he received from St. Pete Rejuvenate. A med spa with a team of a medical professionals who can boast of more than 25 years of experience, St. Pete Rejuvenate offers a variety of inner-wellness and aesthetic services as well as an advance treatment for pain through low-dose infusions of ketamine. An anesthetic that’s been used to help ward off depression, ketamine has also proved effective in alleviating chronic pain, which is defined as pain that has lingered for three months or more and has not responded to other treatments. “My pain was constant, and it was constantly raging as a 10 on a scale of one to 10,” Fidel says. “I was living in misery, unable to sleep, because the pain was running all through my lower back, upper back and even into my neck. “That’s why I laugh when people say professional wrestling is fake. It’s not fake because fake is something that doesn’t hurt. Professional wrestling is hard-core entertainment, and after 40 years of it, I was really struggling.” Fidel tried to alleviate his struggles through massage, physical therapy and prescription pain medications, but they had little or no effect. Finally, he agreed to a friend’s suggestion that he try ketamine infusions at St. Pete Rejuvenate. “Ketamine treats pain by blocking the (pain) receptors in the central nervous system,” says nurse anesthetist Anna Neira, APRN, CRNA, co-founder of St. Pete Rejuvenate. “It resets the central nervous system and reverses the deleterious effects of central sensitization.” Ketamine treatments for pain are delivered intravenously in low doses, typically 0.5 milligrams for every kilogram of body weight, for five days, according to Anna. The patient then takes a nine-day break before beginning a second round in which the dosage is slightly stronger. Anna says the response to ketamine treatments varies but notes that most patients gain relief for between three and 12 months. Fidel received his infusions in February and was still feeling their pain-relieving effects several months later. “I started to feel a difference in my pain after the first five treatments,” he says. “Since then, my pain level has gone from a 10 to a four, which is tolerable for me, so this has really worked out well. “It’s allowed me to work out harder and get back into the ring shape I need to be in because I’m not done wrestling. I’d like to tour England, Japan and Mexico one more time before I get out of the business for good, and St. Pete Rejuvenate is helping me get there. “St. Pete Rejuvenate is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me, and everyone there is so professional. The way they treat you is just amazing. From the time you walk in the door until the time you leave, you just feel so comfortable there. I’d highly recommend them.”
