Family business partners Jim Brosious
and his son Matt were each feeling the effects of aging.
Although physically active and
health-conscious in his mid 60s, Jim acknowledged “having problems.” “I did not
have the energy I had before. I had been exercising, doing some weight lifting,
and had already been working with a nutritionist, but I’d not had the results I
was looking for.”
A
former Army Ranger trained in mixed martial arts, Matt was “amazed” by the
lethargy he felt at his age. “I’m not that old, but I was feeling the effects
of aging. I was gaining a lot of weight even though I exercised. Years ago, if
I was hungry, I could eat a whole pizza. As I aged, if I took just one bite of
one piece, I’d gain ten pounds,” Matt jokes. But the 37-year-old’s lack of
energy wasn’t all that funny. Despite working a job that is “pretty stress free
and physically undemanding, I just wanted to go home and go to bed. I didn’t
have the energy to spend time with the family. I didn’t really have a sex
drive. My wife noticed. I noticed. I was tired.”
After meeting and chatting with Bartley
Harvard Kerr, DC, founder and CEO of National Rejuvenation Centers, at a
neighborhood event, the Brosious men were impressed.
Jim found Dr. Kerr to be “a very easy
person to meet with. He was comfortable to deal and work with.” Aware that Dr.
Kerr had done bodybuilding himself, Jim liked the idea that “the doctor seemed
to live the same lifestyle that he was promoting.”
Matt describes Dr. Kerr as a great guy.
Informative and entertaining, the doctor “is animated. He gets excited about
what he does.”
When they scheduled a joint appointment
for an initial consultation, Jim and Matt were excited about the potential
benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT. The
individualized programs and the tri-level approach to rejuvenation medicine at
NRC appealed to both father and son.
Rejuvenation medicine
“Rejuvenation medicine encompasses much more
than just hormone replacement. The combination of different realms of health
and health care make it work,” explains Dr. Kerr. Hormone replacement therapy,
nutrition counseling, and exercise are three of the most important elements of
the therapies available at NRC. “You don’t need to be a slave to any one of
these things, but you need a little bit of each.”
Dr. Kerr and his medical team offer
affordable, customized programs based on the individual needs of each patient.
“We put together a treatment protocol that helps address all their problem
areas,” says Dr. Kerr.
After a detailed consultation to discuss
medical history, symptoms, and goals, extensive blood work is done to determine
hormone levels.
“We start with the BHRT. We use only
bioidentical hormones to keep the body as clean and natural as it can be.”
Then, based on test results and patient interviews, the best delivery method
for those hormones is determined. “Pills, injections, and creams – whatever
method is best suited to meet the unique needs of the individual and their
lifestyle is the method we use,” notes Dr. Kerr. “If a patient is deficient in
a hormone, we restore it back to a more youthful level, like when they were in
their twenties.
“Once hormones are optimized, people
feel better quickly. Energy levels increase. People begin to think more clearly
as cognition improves. Libido increases. Patients sleep better. The list goes
on. It’s phenomenal.
“Secondly, we tailor an exercise program
to the individual based on age, demographic, and all the values we discussed at
the initial interview. Some people don’t exercise and need a little guidance to
get started. Those who do exercise often overdo it. Too much can be
counterproductive. We want to customize an exercise routine perfect for what
each patient is trying to do.
“Finally, we provide an individualized nutrition
plan for every patient. These are not diets, but rather nutrition plans,”
emphasizes the doctor. “We want them to eat and enjoy real food. Called ‘eating
clean,’ we determine the perfect ratio of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats so
our patients can reach their ideal goals. We put the whole program together so
that people can look better, feel better, and be healthier with a minimal
amount of effort.”
Youthfulness regained
Jim and Matt made the effort and are
more than pleased with the results.
Describing himself as “extremely
satisfied,” Jim is more energetic than ever. “I’ve lost some weight where I
wanted to lose weight, and developed a little more muscle mass where I had
hoped that I could. My stamina has improved. I’d recommend Dr. Kerr and NRC to
anybody. Anyone who wanted to go this route, or wanted to seek out this kind of
program, I would recommend him in a minute.”
Matt is also thrilled. “Once you start
working out, you feel better about yourself and you start eating healthier.
It’s all tied together.”
Immediately, Matt’s energy level and
libido increased. He lost a noticeable amount of body fat and gained muscle
mass. He says people have commented, Holy
smokes! Are you in a body building tournament or something? Others
compliment his leaner, healthier look. “People have been saying that I look really good. With balanced
hormones; smaller, more frequent meals; and the workout he wrote for me, Dr.
Kerr gave me a perfect plan.”
The Brosious men “wanted to be healthy,
and wanted to do it on their terms,” says Dr. Kerr, who is proud of their
efforts and the results obtained.
An individualized program, including
bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, a tailored exercise plan, and
nutrition counseling, worked for Matt and Jim. Customized treatment could work
for everyone to help restore youthful vigor – at any age.
