Facial cosmetic surgery gives a refreshed look and renewed confidence.
As the owner of a beauty shop for 25 years, Mary Anne Smith understands the essentials of looking good. The now-
retired Crystal River resident still wants to put her best face forward when she visits the local tea bar with her friends, but that was the last thing on her mind when her husband suddenly needed the services of a talented oral surgeon.
That brought them to the office of oral and maxillofacial surgeon Michael Hashemian, MD, DMD, of The Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute, which has offices in Lecanto, Spring Hill and Land O’ Lakes. Mary Anne got the surprise of her life when she ended up as a patient for a totally different service.
“My husband had to have a tooth pulled and was going to get an implant, and we were referred over there,” remembers Mary Anne. “I met Dr. Hashemian in the office and I loved his appearance.”
Mary Anne was pleased with the appearance of the office as well. Then, some of the facial cosmetic surgery procedures
Dr. Hashemian offers also caught her eye.
“When you walk in, you feel like you’re in a place you want to be,” she states. “It’s very pleasant. It’s pretty. It’s clean. I felt really comfortable there, and I picked up one of his books of things he has done. I looked and I thought, If I could ever do that, I would do it. My husband turned around and said, If you really want to, let’s go for it. So definitely I said yes.”
Beyond surprised, Mary Anne was thrilled at the prospect of actually having a cosmetic procedure. For a while, she had been looking in the mirror and been unhappy with what she saw.
“I just didn’t like how I looked anymore,” shares Mary Anne. “I aged badly. I had a lot of wrinkles. I felt young but I thought I looked like I was ninety. I had so many bags around my eyes you could hardly see my eyes, and my eyebrows were drooped down real low over my eyes. It was really bad.
“I’d wanted to do surgery for a long time. I’d always talked about it. I’d always looked at my face and said, Look how much better I would look if I could get rid of some of these wrinkles.”
She knew and respected
Dr. Hashemian as her husband’s oral surgeon, but Mary Anne was really delighted when she met with the doctor at her own first appointment with him. She felt immediately like she was in good hands with the skilled facial cosmetic surgeon.
“I was very impressed with him,” she relates. “He’s very businesslike, but he’s personable also, and he makes you feel very comfortable. He knows what he’s doing and you feel it. There’s no hemming and hawing. He’s very sure and upfront. You know what you’re going to get and what’s going to happen.”
Refreshed and Confident
At The Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute, the scope of practice is surgery of the mouth and face. In addition to oral surgery, Dr. Hashemian’s expertise extends to cosmetic facial surgery, and the Institute offers a full range of facial cosmetic services.
“Some of the facial procedures that we do are related to pathology,” explains
Dr. Hashemian. “That means the patient has a disease or irregularity of the skin and face that needs to be corrected. Sometimes, the procedures are strictly cosmetic. That means the patient wants to improve their facial appearance.
“For those people who are looking for cosmetic facial surgery, we perform a number of aesthetic procedures such as face lift, face and neck lift, forehead lift, eyelid surgeries, nose surgeries, ear reshaping, neck liposuction and liposuction of the fat under the chin.”
In addition, The Dentofacial & Cosmetic Surgery Institute offers various forms of fillers to remove or improve facial lines. Filler options include fat transfers, BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®.
“The fillers we use will rejuvenate the face,” informs Dr. Hashemian. “The filler could be in the form of a gel that is prefabricated by the manufacturer, or we can remove fat from the patient’s body and inject it around the lines on the face.”
Mary Anne was looking for something more than a filler could give her. In addition to facial lines, she also wanted to improve the look of loose skin and facial jowling.
“Society perceives lines and loose skin as aging,” notes Dr. Hashemian. “For Mary Anne, I recommended a combination of face and neck lift, in addition to an eyebrow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift. With the combination of these three procedures, which can all be done in one session, she saw a great deal of improvement.
“Patients often ask me what is the effect of these procedures, and my typical answer is it will turn the clock back by ten years. Some people do a face and neck lift just to get a fresher look. That’s what most people want. They want to get a refreshed look.”
“Dr. Hashemian’s procedures took ten years off my face.” – Mary Anne
Dr. Hashemian notes that people who do not want a full face and neck lift like Mary Anne still have options for getting a refreshed look.
“They can do a modified face lift, which is a mini face lift,” he describes. “In layman’s terms, we call that a tuck. In this case, we pull the skin just to get rid of the jowling; we don’t do anything with the neck. That gives a little more rejuvenated face as well.
“If someone wants to do even less than that, they can go with one of the fillers to help them look refreshed.
“Looking better also gives people added confidence, and that can change their lives.”
Ten Years Younger
The excellent results of her procedures really didn’t surprise Mary Anne. She had a good feeling about the surgery and Dr. Hashemian from the very start.
“He asked me, What are you looking for out of this?” Mary Anne recalls, “and I said, If I can look ten years younger, I’m happy with that. I’m not trying to look like I’m thirty again, and he realized that I wasn’t doing it to look twenty-one or seventeen. So we were on the same page.
“Dr. Hashemian’s procedures took ten years off my face.”
Mary Anne is thrilled with the results of her surgeries and glad she had the procedures done. She encourages others, men and women, to pursue cosmetic surgery if they think it will make them feel better and improve their self-esteem. She highly recommends finding a surgeon like
“I would make sure you go to the right person, and if you do and you have all the confidence in them like I do with Dr. Hashemian, go for it,” she advises. “I had no qualms about what I was doing, and I am very happy with the outcome.
“Don’t be afraid. If you want to go, just look up your doctor. If you live near Dr. Hashemian, go to him. He knows what he’s doing.”
