Sweep Away Back Pain

Unique therapy uses vacuum effect to alleviate spinal suffering.

Valerie Gray loves kids. When the 75-year-old was finished raising her two daughters, she kept sharing her mother’s love by babysitting her seven grandchildren. Even now, she still lends a hand with her ten great-grandchildren. Keeping up with little ones all those years wreaked havoc on Valerie’s spine.

Valerie no longer needs to ask neighbors to walk her dog, Bella.

“I was having severe pain that really bothered me,” she remembers. “It was in my right hip more than my back, and I had to walk with a cane. Sometimes, it was a throbbing pain and other times, it was a shooting pain. It was both.”
Years ago, a doctor diagnosed Valerie with arthritis in her spine and told her to remain as active as possible, which she tried to do. In November of last year, however, her back started causing her so much pain, she decided to return to her doctor for help.
“I was in such horrendous pain, I could hardly stand up to walk,” describes Valerie. “But it hurt to sit or lie down, too. It was just terrible. I couldn’t do anything because I had to use a cane. I needed help to do my housework. I used to walk my dog three or four times a day, but I had to get neighbors to walk her because I just couldn’t.
“I went to my regular doctor, who kept taking pictures of my back and saying, I can’t find anything wrong. It was frustrating.”
It was then that Valerie’s son-in-law told her about a remarkable therapy offered by Dr. Craig S. Aderholdt of Back Pain Institute of West Florida. It is a specialized treatment to relieve persistent or chronic pain called vertebral axial decompression, or VAX-D®. Valerie made an appointment and was immediately impressed by the skilled clinician.
“When I went to Dr. Aderholdt, he took x-rays of my back,” she reports. “Right away, he said, Here’s the problem! He discovered I had a curvature in my spine and compression at my third and fourth lumbar vertebrae.”
“For many patients, including Valerie, who have conditions like these, I recommend VAX-D therapy,” notes Dr. Aderholdt. “VAX-D is a patented, FDA-approved medical decompression technique for alleviating pressure on the discs of the spine.” Dr. Aderholdt is one of the few doctors in the country who offers this treatment.

Beyond Traction

While VAX-D is a medical decompression technique, Dr. Aderholdt emphasizes it is not a traction device. It works differently and achieves significantly better results.
“For many patients, chiropractic adjustments alone can actually relieve their pain,” he observes. “For select people with sciatica or herniated, bulging or degenerated discs, however, VAX-D treatment has proven extremely effective.”
During treatment, the patient relaxes on a comfortable, computer-controlled table, secured with a pelvic belt or patented cervical collar, depending on the area to be treated. Carefully specified tension and pressure changes guide the use of VAX-D, allowing the therapist to focus decompression at the exact level of spinal dysfunction.
Because it’s computerized, the VAX-D system enables the table to make subtle but targeted movements, which creates a powerful vacuum within the disc space. This vacuum gently draws the disc back to its proper orientation, pulling nutrient-rich spinal fluid into the disc and stimulating repair cells, effectively mending the disc.
“Nothing else can create such a powerful vacuum,” explains Dr. Aderholdt. “That is what makes VAX-D such a valuable tool for pain relief. There are imitators, but the vacuum effect is the most powerful one known. It doesn’t allow the muscles to contract like other machines might. In fact, VAX-D is the only nonsurgical treatment that has been clinically proven to reduce disc pressure to negative levels.
“The VAX-D treatment has a long track record of many satisfied patients over the years. Long-term studies have actually shown that VAX-D is effective in more than eighty-eight percent of patients who go through the treatment.
“I consider VAX-D one of the most effective nonsurgical medical treatments for low back pain and sciatica today,” declares Dr. Aderholdt. “This revolutionary technology is one more tool I can offer my patients as we work toward relieving pain and maintaining the health of the lumbar and cervical spine.”

Miracle Treatment

“After about four treatments, I noticed my pain was decreasing,” recounts Valerie. “I could move around a lot better, and I didn’t have to use the cane anymore.”
Valerie has a couple more VAX-D treatments to go and will need to complete her entire course of therapy to achieve the best results, but she says she’s very happy with the results of the treatment thus far.
“I feel great,” she marvels.
“Dr. Aderholdt gave me exercises he wants me to do, although he told me not to bend too much until all the treatments are completed. He says once all the swelling goes down, I can do essentially anything I want – within reason.”
Without the excruciating pain, she is free to live a normal life again. Valerie can get around without the cane and has returned to many of the activities she struggled with before her VAX-D treatments.
“My dog’s a little schnauzer, and I can walk her again,” states Valerie. “We walk two or three times a day. We don’t walk as far as we used to, but that’s because she doesn’t want to.

“I’m very happy, and I feel so much better. It’s really a miracle how the VAX-D works. I would definitely suggest it to anybody with back problems.” – Valerie

“I can clean my house by myself now. I do have to sit down and rest periodically, but that’s mostly because I’m seventy-five. I just keep putzing around. I go to and am active with my church. Before, I suffered through the pain, but I don’t have to do that anymore.”
Not only is Valerie pleased with the results of her treatment, she’s happy with her entire experience at Back Pain Institute of West Florida. She has high praise for the doctor and his staff.
“Dr. Aderholdt is very knowledgeable and personable,” she relates. “He’s very interested in me and concerned about my back. He’s always happy to see me. The staff is really great. They’re wonderful people. They make me feel comfortable, and the office has a very nice atmosphere.”
Valerie feels doubly blessed by her exceptional experience and care, so she gladly shares her story with others. She says she absolutely recommends Dr. Aderholdt, Back Pain Institute of West Florida and the remarkable therapy they offer.
“I’m very happy, and I feel so much better,” enthuses Valerie. “It’s really a miracle how the VAX-D works. I would definitely suggest it to anybody with back problems.”
