No More Muffin Top

truSculpt 3D® melts away stubborn belly fat.

The idea of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas may make sense to some, but when her husband of seven years was transferred to the Tampa Bay area late last year, that idea made no sense at all to 36-year-old Jo Jo.*

It was in Las Vegas, after all, that Jo Jo gave birth to the couple’s two boys, four-year-old Mitchell and two-year-old Griffin. Leaving those two behind wasn’t an option. There was, however, at least one thing Jo Jo would have gladly left in Vegas if she could have.

“I wish I could have left my muffin top there!” she exclaims. “I’ve had it ever since I gave birth to Griffin. I gained about twenty pounds during that pregnancy, and I’ve tried every diet plan you can think of, but nothing has worked. At least, not permanently.

“Some of the diets I tried have helped me lose a few pounds here and there, but it’s hard to find time to exercise regularly when you’re busy raising two boys, so the weight always seems to come back.  And in the very same place. It’s just so annoying.”

Jo Jo says her weight problem never reached a point where she felt like she needed to undergo a procedure such as liposuction, which she was hesitant to do anyway because it requires undergoing anesthesia as well as a long
healing process.

Jo Jo* had truSculpt 3D® treatments to rid her of her muffin top.

Nurse practitioner Nestor Guerrero performs the truSculpt 3D procedure on a Premier Vein Institute patient.

That’s why she began investigating CoolSculpting® as a solution shortly before making the move to Florida. It was while she was still investigating that option that she learned of an alternative to CoolSculpting called truSculpt 3D that sounded even better to her.

“A friend from back in Las Vegas told me about it,” Jo Jo says of truSculpt 3D. “She said it would be perfect for me because the treatments only last about
fifteen minutes, so I started looking around for a place that offered it. That’s how I found Premier Vein Institute.”

As its name suggests, Premier Vein Institute specializes in the treatment of peripheral vascular disorders such as varicose veins, spider veins and restless legs syndrome. However, it recently added truSculpt 3D to its list of
patient services.

Something New

“We’ve been looking to expand into this area for a while, but we were waiting for just the right treatment to come along,” explains Nestor Guerrero, ARNP, a
certified nurse practitioner at Premier Vein Institute. “We believe we found it with truSculpt 3D.”

truSculpt 3D is a nonsurgical treatment, so it’s nothing like liposuction. And it’s less painful than CoolSculpting, which uses a suction applicator to freeze the fat cells and is so cold that it actually numbs your skin.

“truSculpt 3D is a far more comfortable approach to the same problem because instead of freezing the fat cells, it uses therapeutic radiofrequency energy that not only destroys the fat cells but actually tightens the skin.”

Using a hand-held applicator, a trained technician such as Nestor delivers the therapeutic radiofrequency energy directly to the fat cells of a specific problem area in the form of a comforting, deep heat that damages the cells’ ability to function properly.

The lack of proper function changes the integrity of the cells, which are eventually recognized as useless by the body’s lymphatic system. Once recognized as useless, the cells are then flushed from the body, thereby reducing the circumference of the problem area.

“One of the things I like about truSculpt 3D is that it involves a lot more interaction with the patient than CoolSculpting,” Nestor adds.

“With CoolSculpting, you pretty much just set it, forget it and leave the patient there all by themselves. Once you apply the cooling applicator, which is big and bulky and uses suction to stick to the problem area that it’s freezing, you don’t have to see the patient again until they’re done or unless they need
you for something.

“With truSculpt 3D, you’re with the patient the whole time because you are the one who is actually treating those problem areas. You provide the treatment and so you naturally begin to talk to the patient and get to know them, which I think is important.

“The other thing I like about it is that you can do several different areas at the same time. You can do the belly area and the two side flanks as well as the thighs and underarms, which are some of the other areas where fat tends to develop.

“Another thing to consider is that there are no side effects involved with the truSculpt 3D procedure. Not only that, but once you’re done with your treatment, you can leave the office that day and resume your normal, daily activities.”

Hot vs. Cold

The heat levels associated with truSculpt 3D are similar to those experienced during a hot stone massage, so they do not affect the skin. And because the applicator allows for more precision, truSculpt 3D typically destroys more fat cells than the CoolSculpting method.

Indeed, patients who have had just one truSculpt 3D treatment have experienced an average reduction of fat in their treated problem areas of 24 percent, the highest achieved through any similar nonsurgical treatment.

truSculpt 3D can also be used to treat relatively flat areas of the body where a pinch of fat cannot be found. CoolSculpting requires a pinchable amount of skin and does not improve the laxity of the skin the way truSculpt 3D does.

truSculpt 3D is also more time-efficient than CoolSculpting. A typical truSculpt 3D session lasts only about 15 minutes, whereas the fat-freezing CoolSculpting treatments can require 45 minutes or possibly even an hour to complete.

As a result, truSculpt 3D treatments are usually about 25 percent less expensive than CoolSculpting treatments. And, while many patients choose to have a second truSculpt 3D treatment to fine-tune their problem areas, most begin to see results after just one treatment.

“Everyone is different, of course, but most patients begin to see results after about six or eight weeks,” Nestor educates. “And for those who want to have a second treatment, we advise that they wait to see those results before coming back for a second treatment.

“We also recommend that our patients complement the truSculpt 3D treatments with a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise because once you’ve finally taken that stubborn fat off, that’s the best way to keep it off for good.”

Jo Jo is one of those who came back for a second treatment, but only because she was so happy with the results of the first treatment. She says she lost about a third of the excess fat around her waist after the first treatment and the same after the second.

“I tried for two years to work off that muffin top of mine, and with truSculpt 3D, it finally started to come off after just two months,” she raves. “And the best thing is, I’ve been able to keep it off. It’s not like before when it always kept coming back.

“I can honestly say that I really like the way I look again. I was really concerned that I was never going to get back the figure and shape I had before I got pregnant, but now I have it back and I couldn’t be happier.

“I’m really glad that I gave truSculpt 3D a chance, because it really worked for me. That’s why I’ve recommended it to a couple of my friends. One of them told me she’s going to get it done on her thighs and underarms as well as around her midsection.

“And I told her to make sure she goes to Premier Vein Institute to have it done. The staff there is great. They’re all very professional and caring, and Nestor does a great job explaining the procedure. Thanks to him, the entire experience was just awesome.”
