A New Set of Teeth

Options abound for people looking to replace missing teeth.

A car accident decades ago left Ronald Gillam in dire dental shape.

His top six teeth along the front of his mouth were chipped or broken off. Others along the bottom were missing.

Ronald Gilliam had two removable dentures created by Dr. Naved Fatmi of Regency Court Dentistry in Boca Raton.

Ron can bite into fruit now without worrying.

“I went to an emergency dentist at the time, and they fixed part of the issue by putting caps along the upper front teeth,” Ronald recalls. “The bottom teeth were never repaired. I couldn’t afford to do much about it, so I just lived with it.”

In recent years, several of those upper caps became loose. One day, Ronald bit into a sandwich and one of the caps broke off in his mouth.

“I had a bad feeling something was going to happen sooner rather than later with the caps coming off,” Ronald says. “Once the one broke off, I told my wife I needed to get to a dentist quickly.”

Ronald’s wife of 47 years, Jean, made an appointment for him to see local dentist Naved Fatmi, DMD, of Regency Court Dentistry in Boca Raton.

“My wife was the guinea pig,” Ronald says with a laugh. “I sent her there first before I went. She loves Dr. Fatmi. She is so happy with him and his staff and the care she receives. When this incident occurred with me, she called them right away and got me an appointment.”

The Right Solution

Determining the best path for reconstruction is based on the individual patient’s needs, preferences and finances. Dr. Fatmi takes his time to evaluate the overall health of the patient’s mouth and asks questions about his or her goals, likes, dislikes, lifestyle and comfort requirements in order to make appropriate recommendations.

“Upon examining Ronald, I discovered that he had a denture and a partial that were loose, as well as a few caps that had broken off,” explains Dr. Fatmi. “He was under the impression that dental implants were his only option. I assured him that was not the case. I told him there were other affordable options that could help him and still provide him with the function that he desired.”

Dr. Fatmi says an important part of the treatment process is to be forthcoming with patients about the procedures and processes involved.

“We are very open with patients and explain what their options are and how we can proceed to help them achieve a healthier smile. Our ultimate goal is to work closely with the patient to achieve good oral health.”

Dr. Fatmi says Ronald sought a solution within his budget that would look good and function well.

“There were various treatment options to consider,” Dr. Fatmi educates. “There’s a removable full denture that sits on nothing but tissues, is not anchored at all, and uses adhesive. There is also a permanent full denture that is anchored to dental implants. Then, we can also do dental implants with a crown attached as a replacement for individual teeth. Ronald chose the removable full denture for his upper arch.

“On the bottom, he chose to go with a removable partial denture and crowns on the adjoining teeth.”

Dr. Fatmi says that the material used in today’s crowns is much more durable and long-lasting.

“Dental aesthetics has improved a great deal in recent years,” Dr. Fatmi explains. “Today’s crowns are made of all-ceramic porcelain materials. Ten years from now, if the gumline shrinks, Ronald will not see a darkness above the top of the crown, which may occur with crowns made with metal components. Nowadays, products are created for longevity and with better aesthetics than ever before.”

Ronald says he is pleased with the final result.

“I received the removable denture on top, removable partial on the bottom and a few crowns, and I am really happy with how things turned out,” he says. “I can eat and smile with confidence now, and I kind of feel like I could never really do that before. Now, I don’t have to worry about my teeth breaking off or being loose. I am so thankful to Dr. Fatmi for all he has done to help restore my confidence.”

Affordable Options

Regency Court Dentistry provides comprehensive care in a comfortable, non-judgmental, relaxed environment. The practice specializes in denture repairs, extractions, root canals and crown repair.

“We treat people comprehensively, from beginning to end,” Dr. Fatmi assures.

Additional services available include Invisalign®, veneers, inlays and onlays, implants, whitening, and emergency services.

“Dental implants can provide great benefits for denture wearers by providing tremendously improved stabilization and function with implant-supported overdentures,” explains Dr. Fatmi. “As well, implants are also great for replacing individual teeth.

“Overall, dental implants are considered the gold standard for replacement of missing teeth, whether a patient is replacing a single tooth or securing a complete upper or lower arch,” Dr. Fatmi states. “I want people to be aware that we do offer implants here as well.

“While dental implants remain widely popular and a sure bet, I want to emphasize that there are other restorative options available, especially where finances may be playing a key factor in making those decisions. Again, there are always affordable options available.”

Regency Court Dentistry also offers emergency dentistry services.

“We see patients on the weekends and after hours,” notes Dr. Fatmi. “If someone is in pain and calls the office and presses option two, it goes directly to my cellphone. I am always readily available to treat weekend or night emergencies.”

Beyond Cleanings

Ronald says he connected with Dr. Fatmi instantly, as they are both fans of the University of Florida Gators.

“My son and daughter-in-law both graduated from the University of Florida, as did Dr. Fatmi, so we always talk about Gator football when I go into his office,” Ronald says. “I must have over one hundred Gator T-shirts, and Dr. Fatmi always waits to see which one I am going to be wearing when I go in for my appointments. It’s a lot of fun. He makes going to the dentist fun.

“His entire staff is knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable and at ease,” he adds. “I just love them!”

Community Commitment

In addition to offering complete dental services, Regency Court Dentistry is a true citizen of the Boca Raton area. Dr. Fatmi and his staff participate in many local events and outreach programs such as Head Start dental exams conducted at Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, and The Arc of The Glades program on behalf of the Dental Home Initiative for people with developmental disabilities.

“We are proud of the results we provide our patients, and especially pleased to play an active role in our community,” concludes Dr. Fatmi. “Going to the dentist should not be a scary or traumatic event, and we invite even those who are nervous about needing dental work to come in and let us help them. I care about each and every patient as an individual, and we strive to meet those individuals’ needs.”
